Rage Against the Mainstream

Fri Jul 29, 2005, 2:56 AM
Stereotypes

The term stereotypes can be defined as the generalization of things by which important and decisive factors are being dismissed. Stereotypes emerge from the mainstream society which law structures, political fundamentals and multiculturalism have already been condensed into some standardized, easily digestible forms of interpretation. These forms of fragile interpretations could easily be broken down into two polarizing conclusions; norms and stereotypes. Norms are set of common cultural beliefs which are often parallel with the conservational perspectives; therefore, norms are often associated with positive attitudes towards religions, patriotisms, and family values. While on the other side, stereotypes might sound less serious since it does not involve any concrete or legalized practices; however, the lethal effects of stereotypes had resulted in massive segregations, racisms, civil wars and other politically incorrect issues. In fact, stereotypes issues are always controversial. The flawed and simplified system of mainstream structure, the generalization of things, and the dismissal of details are the ultimate ignition key that triggers the creation of stereotypes. The rules and regulations that exist in the mainstream society through numerous media telecommunication are enacted as to compromise with the level of complexities able to be grasped by the majorities. The reason of the concession is simply because the majorities are often lack of mental and social awareness. The conclusion here is open-ended, since the world has already been over-bureaucratized, over-institutionalized, and overly enforced by the outdated, archaic mainstream curriculums; there is definitely no simplistic solution on this matter. Probably, by becoming more socially and politically-aware individual, each of us can make small contribution to this ironic world; a capitalist-based world which majorities of people are too naïve that they are not aware of the monotonous, reinforcing movement towards stereotypes and communism itself. Why communism? Isn’t there any more appropriate word to describe the monotonous movement dictated by the hegemonies to achieve goals that dismiss multiculturalism?

Think about the emergence of the counter-cultures, the underrated societies, the minorities, and the underestimated individuals, dismissed intellectuals whose minds are more complex and sophisticated in ways that cannot be easily fathomed, yet believed to be inferior and abhorrent by the mainstream societies!
